In a country where countless dreams are born in the quiet corners of remote villages, very few travel far enough to echo on national and global stages. Jyotsna Sabar’s story is one such rare journey, one that begins in a small tribal village of Odisha’s Gajapati district and rises to the honour of the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award, inspiring a generation to believe in the power of perseverance.

For Jyotsna, the path to recognition was never easy, but it was always purposeful. Growing up in a tribal community, she carried with her not just personal ambition, but the hopes of many who saw education and sport as distant possibilities. That narrative began to change when she became a student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, a space where discipline meets opportunity, and talent is nurtured with care and conviction.

At KISS, Jyotsna’s days unfolded between classrooms and training halls. She balanced her academic responsibilities with intense physical training at the Odisha–TENVIC Weightlifting High Performance Centre, where sweat, struggle, and self-belief shaped her into a champion. Her routine demanded resilience, early mornings, rigorous practice, and the mental strength to push beyond limits. Over time, that dedication translated into excellence on the international stage.

Jyotsna’s achievements speak louder than statistics, yet they are remarkable. Competing in the women’s 40 kg category, she has made India proud at the Asian, Commonwealth, and World Championships. Holding the Asian Youth Record, she has established herself as one of the brightest young talents in Indian weightlifting. Each medal she lifts is not just a personal victory, but a symbol of what becomes possible when talent is supported with the right guidance and belief.

The Prime Minister’s National Youth Award stands as a defining moment in her journey, recognising not only her sporting excellence, but her determination to rise above circumstances. It honours a young tribal girl who dared to dream big, worked relentlessly, and turned discipline into destiny.

As Jyotsna sets her sights on the Olympic dream, she does not walk alone. KIIT and KISS continue to stand firmly beside her, committed to providing full support as she moves forward on this challenging yet promising path. Her journey reaffirms a powerful truth: when children are given opportunity, care, and faith, they do not just change their own lives, they rewrite the future for many others.

From Gajapati to the global arena, Jyotsna Sabar’s story is more than a success tale. It is a reminder that greatness often rises from the most humble beginnings, and that dreams, when matched with hard work, truly know no boundaries.
