Honouring Tribal Legacy: Odisha Marks Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh with Special Celebrations
Joining the nationwide tribute, the Odisha State Tribal Museum, under the Department of SCSTRTI, has launched a series of cultural programmes to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of revered tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh is being observed across the nation from November 1 to 15, celebrating the rich heritage, culture, and remarkable contributions of India’s tribal communities. Joining the nationwide tribute, the Odisha State Tribal Museum, under the Department of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), has launched a series of cultural programmes to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of revered tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
A dedicated Birsa Munda Pavilion has been set up at the museum to showcase his life, struggles, and revolutionary spirit, offering visitors a meaningful insight into his role in India’s tribal movement. The museum has also curated a vibrant painting exhibition narrating Birsa Munda’s journey and sacrifice, alongside a captivating photo exhibition reflecting the traditions, lifestyle, and cultural identity of Odisha’s diverse tribal groups.
Adding to the cultural experience, members of the Kulis tribe are presenting traditional textile weaving techniques through live demonstrations, offering visitors a close look at indigenous craftsmanship. Juang tribal artists are also displaying their traditional artwork, bringing forward the artistic brilliance of Odisha’s tribal communities.
To foster awareness among young minds, special guided tours of the Odisha State Tribal Museum have been arranged for school and college students, providing them an educational and immersive experience into the state’s tribal heritage.
The celebrations stand as a tribute to the enduring spirit, cultural richness, and invaluable role of tribal communities in shaping the nation’s history and future.
